Government Polytechnic Jammu in collaboration with Department of Industries and Commerce today organised an Industry-Academia Meet as per the directions from District Administration, Director, Department of Industries and Commerce, Jammu and Director, Skill Development Department, J&K. The collaboration was based on a collective commitment to bridge the gap between local industries and academia. The meeting witnessed a congregation of representatives from various industrial associations, unit holders, DIC Jammu and TPOs and faculty of Government Polytechnic Jammu. Sh. Virender Kumar Manyal, General Manager, DIC Jammu along with Er. Arun Bangotra, Principal Government Polytechnic Jammu headed the meet.
In his welcome address, Er Arun Bangotra briefed the meet as an opportunity to access the nature and magnitude of the skill gap across the district and to take appropriate measures in conducting skill training to bridge the skill gap. He added that the institute and industry can collaborate on various topics related to research, innovation, education, and workforce development as such events serve as a platform for fostering meaningful interactions, exchanging ideas, and building partnerships between the two sectors. Sh. Virender Kumar Manyal JKAS, General Manager, DIC Jammu said that we need industry-academia collaboration to make sure that the engineers of tomorrow are ready to face the challenges of fast-paced world and to share the industry expectations from academic institutions and identify common interests, foster greater understanding and to develop the capacity to address the local issues like unemployment of the local youth. The session witnessed participation from Mr. S. C. Dutta, President Birpur Industrial Association, Mr. Vinod Kumar Vice President, Mr. Ajay Langer, Vice President, Bari Brahmana Industrial Association, Mr. B. L. Koul, representative Pharmaceutical Association, Mr. Pankaj Sharma, Plant head, Saraswati, Mr. Ashok Kumar, Mr. Rajesh and other representatives from industry associations and unit holders. The keynote speeches by representatives from industry and academia, providing insights into current trends, challenges, and opportunities. Panel discussions featuring experts from both sectors delve into specific topics such as technology trends, industry-academia collaboration models, and skill development strategies. It provided a platform to discuss the technological challenges industries are facing and eventually the measures to overcome those challenges. On the occasion, MoU was also signed between Er. Arun Bangotra Principal, Government Polytechnic Jammu and Center for Invention, Innovation, Incubation and Training (CIIIT) Jammu and Sh. Virender Kumar Manyal JKAS, General Manager, DIC Jammu with a collective commitment to go beyond common boundaries to build the bridge between the local industries and the local skilled youth.
